Ben Carson Calls Presidential Campaign ‘Ugly, Vicious’

Following last week’s combative Republican presidential debate, candidate Ben Carson criticized his rivals for their rhetoric.

The retired neurosurgeon called the face-off of the last six remaining contenders for the party’s nomination “ugly, vicious and not worthy of the American people,” according to Newsmax.

“The cancer of divisiveness is corroding our politics and the soul of our nation, and if we don’t fix it, nothing else matters,” Carson told his supporters in an email message. “It’s very easy to get pulled down into the mud. The media and our political class thrive on it. But I got into this race for bigger reasons, and I will continue to stay focused on the big picture.”

White House hopefuls Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz hurled insults at each other during the debate. They are engaged in a fierce battle for the support of voters in South Carolina, which will hold its GOP presidential primary on Saturday.

Newsmax noted that Carson has been on the receiving end of some of the harsh language on the campaign trail. His main critic, Donald Trump, recently called him a “pathological liar.”

National and state polls indicate that Trump continues to lead the race. However, some of the billionaire businessman’s competitors have been gaining on him. Among them are Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who exceeded expectations in the recent first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire.
