Athlete Suggests Clinton And Trump Are Racists

The football player who refused to stand for the national anthem at a preseason NFL game on Friday remained in the national spotlight two days later, when he spoke out against both of the major-party presidential nominees.

The Big Lead reported that Colin Kaepernick, the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, responded to a question about whether he sat during the “Star Spangled Banner” to protest this year’s election process. “It wasn’t a timing thing, it wasn’t something that was planned, but I think the two presidential candidates that we currently have also represent the issues that we have in this country right now,” he said.

The athlete explained: “You have Hillary, who has called black teens or black kids superpredators. You have Donald Trump, who’s openly racist. We have a presidential candidate who has deleted emails and done things illegally and is a presidential candidate. That doesn’t make sense to me because if that was any other person you’d be in prison. So, what is this country really standing for?”

According to The Huffington Post, Kaepernick said earlier that he remained seated during the national anthem because of “the oppression of people of color.” The 49ers are to play their last preseason game on Sept. 1 in San Diego.
