Army General Blames Obama For ISIS

The rise of ISIS in Iraq “might have been prevented” if the Obama administration had not pulled out so many troops from the Middle East, according to Gen. Ray Odierno, the Army’s top-ranking officer.

The general, who plans to retire soon, told Fox News it is “frustrating” for him to see the Islamic State militant group capture territory that American troops previously secured. He served in Iraq for four years, the last two as U.S. commander. Many consider him “a key architect of the Iraq surge,” according to Fox News.

In an exclusive interview with the television network, Odierno said: “I go back to the work we did in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. We got it to a place that was really good. Violence was low, the economy was growing, politics looked like it was heading in the right direction.”

He continued: “If we had stayed a little more engaged, I think maybe (the ISIS threat) might have been prevented. I've always believed the United States played the role of honest broker between all the groups, and when we pulled ourselves out we lost that role. … I think it would have been good for us to stay.”
