Anti-Trump Delegates Claim They Are Being Threatened By GOP Leaders

Some of the delegates to next month’s Republican National Convention say the GOP establishment is pressuring them to not nominate someone other than Donald Trump for president.

Those who will represent North Carolina at the event in Cleveland, Ohio, “are very much under direct threat from our state with a $10,000 fine,” according to one of the delegates. She told NBC News that the state-party vice president has “threatened” her on Facebook by suggesting the delegates set up a legal fund.

“I think that that’s definitely going to affect very many people who are not going to be willing to step up in front of the committeemen” and oppose Trump, the unidentified delegate said. She pointed out that GOP leaders are requiring Arizona’s delegates to sign a pledge ensuring they will vote for the presumptive nominee. An Arkansas delegate said that because he refuses to support Trump, fellow Republicans have called him a “threat,” a “coward” and a “communist.”

According to NBC News, the Republican state chairmen in North Carolina and Arizona acknowledged they are requiring delegates to vote for the candidate whom they were chosen to back at the convention. However, anti-Trump forces allegedly are conspiring to change rules, to allow delegates to support any candidate on the first ballot.
