Another Top Republican Comes Out Against Trump, Endorses Clinton

The prospect of Donald Trump becoming the nation’s next president is “unthinkable,” according to former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.

MailOnline reported that the Republican, who served in the administration of President George W. Bush, has publicly endorsed presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Paulson joins a number of other prominent Republicans in rejecting their party’s apparent candidate. Conservative writer and commentator George Will announced this week that he is leaving the GOP because of Trump.

According to Paulson, the New York City billionaire is a “populist” who is “hijacking one of the United States’ great political parties” with his “ignorance, prejudice, fear and isolationism.” In an op-ed for the Washington Post, the former Cabinet member wrote: “This troubles me deeply as a Republican, but it troubles me even more as an American. Enough is enough. It’s time to put country before party and say it together: Never Trump.”

Paulson disputed Trump’s claim that his success as a real-estate developer qualifies him for the presidency. “Every good businessman, or woman, carefully analyzes all the available facts before making a decision,” he wrote. “Trump repeatedly, blatantly and knowingly makes up or gravely distorts facts to support his positions or create populist divisions.”

Paulson also slammed Trump for opposing international trade deals that the Republican establishment supports, according to the Daily Mail.
