Americans Think Obama's Policies Benefit Big Business, Not The Middle Class

As the rich appear to be getting richer, a majority of Americans believe that current government policies benefit big business more than they do the middle class. With wages stagnant since the early 2000's, the proof is in the pudding. In a recent Pew Research Center poll, most of the respondents said they believe that President Barack Obama's policies have helped big business more than they have the middle class.

In fact, 3 out of 4 Americans think that banks and financial companies benefited greatly or fairly from government policies. A whopping 72 percent believe that the middle class has not received any benefits after the great recession. While 67 percent of Americans have a positive outlook about the job market, for those making $30,000 or less, only 50 percent say they were not affected by the recession or they had recovered their losses. That number goes up to 86 percent for those making $100,000 or more. The poll also asked participants their beliefs on government assistance. Of those asked, 49 percent believed that government assistance helped save them from extreme poverty. On the other hand, 44 percent felt that government assistance hurts citizens by making them too reliant on government aid. In terms of ideology, 74 percent of Democrats agreed with the first statement, while 71 percent of Republicans agreed with the second statement.
