Allegations Emerge That Jared, Ivanka Used Taxpayer Dollars For Private Travel

The intense interest in President Donald Trump has lead to increased scrutiny over anything attached to the commander-in-chief, and that includes members of his family. That’s especially true for the ones that have joined him in the nation’s capital. Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump are constantly under the microscope by political observers, and you don’t have to look too far to find shade being thrown in their direction on a daily basis.

Social media is littered with derogatory commentary directed towards the DC power couple, and the overwhelming consensus from users that subscribe to that narrative is that the pair doesn’t bring all that much to the table. If daddy wasn’t in the White House, they wouldn’t get in sniffing distance of such power and whatnot, or so the story goes. A new report has taken that line of thinking a step further, as it suggests that the couple is living high on the hog at the expense of taxpayers.

As the Inquisitr shares, the report implies that the couple is in way over its head on a number of fronts, and it also implies that the couple has used taxpayer dollars for private vacations. In short, the couple flew to a ski resort in a Trump Organization helicopter. While there’s no clarity or details on who may have footed the bill for that, some observers have concluded that Ivanka and Jared are unnecessarily using taxpayer dollars.

“Taxpayers are paying for Secret Service to accompany Ivanka and Jared on their trips and vacations,” according to Richard Painter, President George W. Bush’s ethics chief. “Because they choose to use a Trump Organization aircraft, you’ve got the problem we’ve been dealing with all along: the government is paying the Trump Organization to protect the first family, when it shouldn’t be.”

Virginia Canter, executive branch ethics counsel to a citizens’ watchdog group, is also on board with this line of thinking.

“Jared and Ivanka’s use of a Trump Organization helicopter for their personal use blurs the line between the White House and the family business,” Canter said. “[It] reinforces the belief that they are unable and unwilling to put the public interest before the family business.”

Alright, so is the couple guilty of throwing around taxpayer dollars like they’re going out of style or not? That remains unclear. Absent a clear-cut breakdown of who footed the bill for the helicopter - the Trump Organization or the White House - this all amounts to a big old game of speculation. If the White House is footing the bill, then there’s some more to see here. If it’s not, then we can chalk this up just another piece of unsubstantiated gossip.

As for the Secret Service protection that the couple is entitled to, it’s an expense that goes with the territory. Are they supposed to remain under lock and key for the next four years to reduce that expense as best as they can? Not exactly, but they would be wise to be mindful of appearances of being careless and wasteful with taxpayer-funded amenities.
