‘All Lives Matter,’ Trump Declares at Campaign Event

Donald Trump said “all lives matter” as police removed six African-American protesters from the Republican presidential front-runner’s campaign rally in Alabama on Sunday.

The demonstrators, representing the Black Lives Matter movement, raised their fists into the air in the traditional black-power salute, according to the Daily Mail.

“Folks, look, we have to love everybody,” Trump told the crowd. “All lives matter. All lives matter. When you have 35,000 people, if you have a few protesters, I guess that has to happen.” Police estimated the turnout was closer to 10,000 people.

The candidate has been under fire from fellow Republicans, as well as Democrats, for refusing to denounce the Ku Klux Klan. Earlier on Sunday, Trump told CNN “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper that he did not “know anything about” the white-supremacist group. He also claimed to be unfamiliar with David Duke, even though he called the former Klan grand wizard a “racist” and a “bigot” several years ago. Duke recently endorsed the billionaire businessman’s presidential bid.

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton reacted to Trump’s failure to disavow the KKK by telling reporters: “It’s pathetic.” Sen. Bernie Sanders tweeted that “America's first black president cannot and will not be succeeded by a hatemonger who refuses to condemn the KKK.” GOP candidate Marco Rubio declared: “Not only is that wrong, it makes him unelectable. How are we going to grow our party with a nominee that refuses to condemn the Ku Klux Klan? Don’t tell me he doesn’t know who the Ku Klux Klan is.”
