Woman Shares Her $600 Meal Experience, But Not Everyone Is Happy To Hear About It

Ever had a $600 meal? If not, you can eat vicariously through one woman, who shared her experience online. The woman enjoys fine dining and got herself a table for one at one of the finest restaurants in the world.

Some love getting the low-down on the fancy fare, while others think it's crazy to drop that much money on food.

An Imgur user known as Hoptail is a student from Australia, and she's got a job that allows her to travel. She loves to save up her money so she can splurge on a fancy meal whenever she gets a chance. She posted images of a restaurant she went to in California.

“So I got sent to San Francisco for work and I always make a habit of visiting the best restaurants when I travel. I’m not well-off by any means – I’m a college student. But I love good food and I save up for this shit, so please enjoy living vicariously through these photos of my dinner for 1 at Saison,” she wrote on her Imgur account.

Course by course, one by one, Hoptail shared photos and described the incredible dining experience. The meal apparently started with a cup of tea.

“The most heavenly tea I’ve ever had in my life. Each little bushel had douglas fir, yarrow, chamomile, lemon balm, anise and hyssop all picked fresh from the restaurant farm and steeped in hot meyer lemon water," Hoptail wrote, sharing an image of the beautiful cup.

“Up next, baby spinach, roasted kelp cooked in clarified butter (compliments of their jersey cow Bella) and topped with caviar," she wrote next.

The photo featured here may not look that appetizing to diners who prefer a less pretentious menu. Foodies will find it exciting, however, with the spoonful of fish eggs nesting in a lump of seaweed.

Hoptail went on describing dish after dish. With most things, she was pleased. There were a couple of things, like a geoduck dish, that she didn't like.

"Honestly, it wasn’t that good. Just kind of chewy and the marinade was super overwhelming I couldn’t actually taste the meat,” she said.

Her favorite course was fresh sea urchin on grilled bread with a basting sauce. The meal was topped off with a course of pumpkin made three ways. It might be a hit for you if you like pumpkin topped with octopus flakes, or swimming in cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil.

A meal like that may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s an experience. And that experience will cost you $600. Many people slammed Hoptail for taking pictures of the food at such an upscale place.

“Documenting your food is becoming more and more acceptable now, even in high-end restaurants,” she explained. “I’m aware that I looked like an instawhore, but.. well, firstly, I don’t have Instagram, and secondly, if I’m going to spend that much on a meal, I want to be able to appreciate it later and share it with people who would find it interesting," Hoptail explained.

A lot of people slammed the young woman for spending that much money on food. She had a comment for them, too. “For those of you with the disparaging comments about this endeavor not being worth it, or that I shouldn’t be spending my money on stuff like this if I’m not financially well-to-do. Kindly shove it up your arse."

"It’s my money, and this is what I like. I could be strung out on cocaine or have a crippling meth addiction, cut me some slack. Go to Wendy’s if you WANT to, ain’t nothing wrong with that – you do you.”
