Tom Brady Says Drinking 2.5 Gallons Of Water Has Made Him Immune To...

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady might want to stick to football, because his medical advice is questionable at best. The NFL star claims that he has a fool-proof way to help combat sunburn on the field: drinking water.

According to Brady, a self-described 'fair-skinned Irish boy', he never gets sunburns. This is unusual, particularly for someone who runs around on a field under the hot sun in a sweat on a regular basis. It's not sunscreen that is his secret to avoiding the sun's damaging UV rays. Brady believes he's impervious to them because he drinks copious amounts of water.

According to Brady in his new book, 'The TB12 Method', ever since he began drinking 2.5 gallons of water per day, he didn't have to worry about sunburns anymore. He just stopped getting them.

"When I was growing up, and playing outside in the sun, I got sunburned a lot," Brady wrote. "I was a fair-skinned Irish boy, after all. These days, even if I get an adequate amount of sun, I won't get a sunburn, which I credit to the amount of water I drink. I always hydrate afterward, too, to keep my skin from peeling."

"When I once told that to my sister," the athlete continued, "she said, 'You mean I don't have to use all those moisturizers and facial products to keep my skin looking good? I should just drink as much water as you do? I think you should market your [stupid water drop things] as a beauty product.' I just laughed," he said.

The 'water drop things' to which his sister refers are 'electrolyte drops' that Brady markets. Brady hawks his health product line throughout the entire book. According to the description of the book, "'The TB12 Method is the only book an athlete will ever need, a playbook from Brady himself that will change the game."

Health care specialists may beg to differ. There's no mention in any credible medical sources that links extreme hydration to sun protection. According to the Center for Disease Control, a person should use sunscreen, cover up and stay out of the sun when possible to avoid tanning or burns.

This isn't the first time that Brady's quirkiness put him in the center of controversy. He has made headlines for some odd things, such as calling his teammates 'babe', and kissing his father on the lips. He’s skirted a few scandals as well, such as ‘deflategate’, and hanging around Ben Affleck while he was having an affair with the nanny. The affair ultimately broke up Affleck’s marriage to Jennifer Garner.

Brady's diet is known to be rather extreme. The pescatarian's food intake includes about 20 percent fish, and 80 percent vegetables and whole grains. He uses olive and coconut oil, but doesn't eat white flour, sugar, and even limits his fruit intake. He believes his wholesome diet will keep him fitter and in pro-sports longer.

A dietitian consulted by the New York Post called Brady's eating plan kind of 'sketchy'.
