Famed Country Music Performer Taken To Hospital After Suffering Stroke, Remains There

According to her publicist, country music matriarch Loretta Lynn remains in the hospital after suffering a stroke at home.

Sony Music publicist Maria Malta noted over the weekend that nothing material has changed in her status from the information currently posted on Lynn's personal website.

Her website explains that the 85-year-old singer/songwriter was taken to a hospital last Thursday night. Doctors determined she had suffered a stroke at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. The publicist did confirm that Lynn is still checked into the hospital.

The information on her website continues to state that Lynn is responsive and the doctors say she is likely to make a full recovery.

It seems that the still-actively-performing country legend has been advised by doctors to avoid traveling for a while, so fans are advised to keep in mind that a number of upcoming shows will have to be rescheduled.

Of interest, famous country singer Crystal Gayle, who is Lynn’s sister, also released a statement: "Many of you have heard that my sister, Loretta Lynn, had a stroke. She's a strong woman and I know she'll come out of this. Our family appreciates your prayers, love and support. We pray for a speedy recovery."

The daughter of a hardscrabble Kentucky coal miner, Loretta Lynn had a string of hits starting in the 1960s with "Coal Miner's Daughter. She also wrote and sang ''You Ain't Woman Enough," ''The Pill," and "One's on the Way,” to name just a few of her dozens of hits.

Musicologists point out that most of Lynn’s songs revolve around her pride in her humble background and offer honest and often emotionally rich commentary on her experiences as a young wife and mother from Appalachia who was barely getting by but still living life to the fullest.
