Conservative Wife Touts Importance Of Staying Fit For Husband In Op-Ed Piece

Expressing an opposing viewpoint to the conventional wisdom of the day is a surefire way to upset the apple cart, and that’s exactly what conservative writer Inez Feltscher has done with her latest piece. The 29-year-old resident of Washington DC has been married for less than a year to Jarrett Stepman, but she thinks she has uncovered one of the keys to lasting love. As the Daily Mail shares, she has shared her findings with the world in a piece entitled 'Staying Fit for Your Husband Is One of the Best Gifts You Can Give Him.’

Feltscher’s essay appears on The Federalist, and it doesn’t exactly open up with warm and fuzzy feelings about romance and whatnot.

“Having been sold a pack of feminist lies that make both men and women unhappier, those of us in the millennial generation who are interested in happy marriages have had to rediscover a lot of politically incorrect truths from scratch,” she writes. “But there’s one truth that is particularly difficult for our genderless, sexless culture to accept, because it eviscerates not one, but two shibboleths of the age: first, that men and women desire the same things in relationships, and second, that a selfish, 'be yourself' attitude is a good prescription for marital bliss.”

Despite the contentious opening, the piece is not geared towards attacking an opposing viewpoint. Feltscher takes the time to articulate her point, and she manages to do that in a non-inflammatory way. Of course, that doesn’t mean she won’t be the recipient of a ton of eye rolls for expressing an opposing viewpoint.

“The unspeakable truth is this: a spouse’s physical appearance is much more likely to be important to men than women,” she continues. "Maintaining their figures and beauty - through reasonable efforts - is one important way that women can make their husbands happy.”

She does acknowledge that physical appearance should not be the overriding factor in various states of marital bliss.

“While women’s looks are important to men, they are the most important thing only if you married a pig,” Feltscher continues. “This is not about the pursuit of perfection, but rather, about achieving your best self.”

Fair enough, but it’s also easier said than done depending on life circumstances. Unless you’re one of the types that is a complete fitness fanatic, working out can go by the wayside as life happens.

“Making an effort to please the man you married is not an act of sisterhood betrayal. Honoring your husband’s masculine nature - and the desires that come with it - is one of the best gifts you can give the man you love,” she concludes.

Another fair point, but we can expect Feltscher’s contention to be blasted as out of touch by some observers. For those that are mature enough to handle a viewpoint that’s somewhat different, there is some interesting substance to what she has to say. In a perfect world, both husband and wife will do their best to look good for each other. There’s nothing terribly wrong with that, as long as both partners aren’t completely hung up on physical appearance.
