Colin Kaepernick Sets His Sights On Owning An NFL Team

If you’ve claimed that people are blackballing you and have no desire to have you around, then why on earth would you want to spend money to go and hang out with them? Those are among the many questions swirling around in the wake of former NFL player Colin Kaepernick expressing his interest in becoming an owner of an NFL team.

The surprising news was dropped that the Carolina Panthers would be placed up for sale at the end of the season.

Since NFL franchises don’t hit the market very often, we can expect interest to be quite high. In fact, expressions of interest started flowing in right away. As The Blaze shares, Kaepernick hopped on social media to let the world know that this was something he could stand up for.

“I want in on the ownership group! Let’s make it happen!” he wrote.

Kaepernick was replying to a post from Diddy, as the music mogul has made it crystal clear that he wants in on the fraternity of NFL owners.

“Attention to the Carolina Panthers! Attention NFL! This is a chance to make history!!!” he wrote. “There are no African American majority owners in the NFL!!!! I would like to buy the Carolina Panthers!!! Let’s gooooooo!!!!! Spread the word. Tell the world! No joke.”

Diddy would go on to explain exactly what he brings to the table, including his eye for quarterback talent.

“I would be the best NFL owner that you can imagine,” he continued. “I will immediately address the Colin Kaepernick situation, and put him in the running for next year’s starting quarterback. It’s just competition, baby. It’s just competition.”

Stephen Curry, the all-star point guard for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, also expressed interest in joining any potential bids for the Panthers. It’s unclear if the trio is being completely serious or not here, but it’s going to take a whole lot of skrilla to make their ownership dreams come true if that’s the case.

It’s estimated that the Panthers will fetch somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.5 billion, and that points to the need for some wealthy outside investors to join in for anything resembling a successful bid.

If Diddy and company can raise the needed capital, then they would certainly be on the list of contenders. That said, there’s the little matter of the elephant in the room.

Kaepernick continues to claim that he’s being blackballed from the league, in spite of the fact that he’s had opportunities to continue his career that didn’t exactly pan out. Beyond those offers, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has extended an olive branch to Kaepernick so that he can chat about his grievances, but the invitation has yet to be accepted.

In short, it’s going to be real tough to take any bid with Kaepernick’s name attached to it seriously. That has absolutely nothing to do with his feelings on standing for the National Anthem, but it has a whole lot to do with how he’s presented himself.

He’s been incredibly unclear about what his exact grievances with the league are, and he’s also failed to succinctly explain exactly what he was trying to accomplish by starting the whole anthem protest thing. A failure to communicate simple points is not the mark of a great leader, so it’s tough to see Kaepernick being given the ball in this situation either.
