Oregon Woman Kills Controlling Boyfriend During Meth Laden Prison Kiss

A woman from Oregon has been sentenced to 2 years jail time after she accidentally killed her inmate boyfriend during a visit to his cell. According to Yahoo, the woman in question, Melissa Ann Blair, killed her 41-year-old boyfriend, Anthony Powell, with a “meth laden kiss.”

When Ms. Blair arrived at Oregon State Penitentiary, prison workers had no idea that she was using her visiting time with Mr. Powell to secretly give him methamphetamine to sell and use within the prison.

Ms. Blair transferred small bags of methamphetamine to her partner during long and passionate kisses in visiting hours.

However, during Ms. Blair’s most recent visit, something went wrong and Ms. Powell later died from a methamphetamine overdose. The most likely cause of death was the bursting of one or more of the methamphetamine-filled balloons in Mr. Powell’s stomach.

The results from full toxicity reports have not yet been received, but initial findings from investigators support this hypothesis.

According to Marco Hernandez, the U.S. District Judge presiding the case, Ms. Blair’s decision to smuggle methamphetamine into the prison was part of a broader plan the pair concocted during a previous visit.

However, there remains a high degree of uncertainty about the culpability of Ms. Blair and Mr. Powell. At this stage, it remains unclear if Ms. Blair was operating on her own volition or was under the sway of her partner.

Nevertheless, Judge Hernandez believes that Mr. Powell’s death cannot be blamed on the prison system. “It was tragic and sad but he shares responsibility for what happened,” emphasized the tough judge.

Yahoo reports that Mr. Powell was originally imprisoned on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated murder of his own mother-in-law. Alongside his prison sentence, Ms. Powell had to participate in mandatory drug addict meetings and receive mental health counselling.

Although she has not made a public statement, Ms. Blair’s attorney, John Ransom, has responded to the bizarre incident, telling the Judge and Court: “It was a very Svengali-type situation where he had total control over her life. She had to do whatever he said.”

Ms. Random continued to emphasize the control that Mr. Powell had over Ms. Blair – even while he was behind bars. However, one of Mr. Powell’s closest friends, Ms. Brandy Pokovich, has criticized this view, arguing that her friend didn’t try and control or abuse any of his partners.

“Now, because of the choices that were made, I no longer can pick up the phone and hear his voice, I can’t go on a visit and see his big cheesy smile and get the best hug in the world,” wrote Ms. Pokovich in a victim impact statement.

An avid user of social media, it was Ms. Pokovich who initially introduced her friend, Mr. Powell, to his girlfriend and unintentional killer, Ms. Blair. It seems that Ms. Pokovich is already living with the consequences of that decision. “He was not just an inmate,” she told Yahoo. “He was a very loved and cared-for person who had a family that would always be there no matter what.”
