Man Who Raped And Murdered Baby Girl Faces Calls For Death Penalty

A petition, calling for a rapist and murderer in West Virginia to be hung to death, has received over 32,000 signatures. The person that the petition targets is Benjamin R. Taylor – a man who looks set to face life imprisonment after he murdered and raped his girlfriend’s daughter, Emmaleigh Barringer.

The girl was only 10 months old when Taylor raped and killed her.

The culprit, who lives in Cottageville, could not be sentenced to the death penalty as it has been abolished in West Virginia for the last 50 years. However, more than 30,000 state residents are calling on the White House to bend the rules and make an exception for Taylor.

The petition, which is hosted on ‘We The People’, justified the message in the petition’s information page, which reads: “Prison is too good for child rapists and their ilk.”

Emmaleigh’s mother, Amanda Leigh Adkins, has four children now, but she still recalls the horrifying moment she woke up to find her 10-month-old daughter bloody and naked on the floor. Amanda found her daughter after waking up in the middle of the night and checking on a noise in the basement.

After taking her daughter to a local hospital, doctors told Amanda that the infant girl – who was suffering from deep internal bleeding from the sexual assault and several punches to the face – would not make it through the night. In the early hours of the morning, Amanda held her daughter close while she took her final breaths.

Police, acting on information from the hospital and victim’s mother, were able to secure a warrant to enter Taylor’s home. When the man – who was still in bed – saw police, he attempted to “wipe something off his groin area” before being arrested. According to WSAZ, forensics have confirmed that the man was trying to wipe away Emmaleigh’s blood.

“When it's an open and shut case such as this, let us hang these creatures publicly,” declared J.R., the person who started the petition. “Let us make examples of them, and allow the American people to attend these hangings so that the accused may be ridiculed, as they should be.”

After the incident, shocked friends and family were dumbfounded that Taylor – who was described as ‘Prince Charming’ – could commit a crime of such magnitude.

Many family members described how compatible Taylor and Amanda seemed from the outside. “She was so lit up inside — he wanted to do things with her, he hung out with the kids,” said Amanda’s cousin, Danielle Adkins, during an interview with WSAZ.

During Emmaleigh’s heartbreaking funeral, friends and family held a candlelit vigil for a young life taken far too soon.

“She's never going to go home with her brothers and sister again,” said Danielle. “She's never going to be in a family event. We're never going to know what her kids would look like or get to see her graduate high school — any of these normal life things because of this monster.”
