Driver Sees Something Strange in the Desert, Horrified When He Looks Closer

Mary Bell’s three young children had been walking in Twentynine Palms in the Mojave Desert in California in 90-degree weather without shoes or water for 45 minutes before they were rescued from their harsh punishment.

Now Bell, 34, who is homeless, and her boyfriend Gary Cassle, 29, are in jail for putting their children in danger.

According to MailOnline, a local spotted the children —a 7-year-old girl and a 5 and 6-year-old boy— near a road and called police. When they arrived, Bell and Cassle were reportedly within sight but “but it was apparent they weren't keeping a visual on them,” a San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Cynthia Bachman said.

The couple, who were living in a truck with their kids, pleaded guilty to felony child abuse and were sentenced to 240 days in jail. The children, thankfully, did not require medical attention after they were found.

“'That's pretty bad,' said neighbor Ron Greiger. “It's probably too hot to be letting your kids wander, especially without shoes.”

Bell and Cassle were also placed on probation and have a protective order filed against them that prevents them from contacting the children.
