Attackers Of An Autistic Boy Get a Light Sentence, Now The Father Is Furious

A 17-year-old in Maryland and a 15-year-old accomplice horribly abused a 16-year-old autistic boy. At first, the 17-year-old was going to be tried as an adult and could have faced up to 80 years in prison. At the last minute, the judge had a change of heart. The victim's father is furious.

Lauren Bush and her unnamed younger accomplice tortured the boy, known as 'Michael', and recorded the assault on video. At one point, the teens held a knife to the boy's throat. They forced him to perform sex acts, pushed to have sex with a dog. The boy was beaten, kicked in the groin, dragged by the hair, pushed into a frozen pond and they even attempted to run over him with a car.

Bush was initially set to be tried as an adult. If convicted of first-degree assault, she could have spent the rest of her life behind bars. However, after the adult trial began, the judge transferred the case to a juvenile court.

Bush was sentenced to just four years, two years less than her younger accomplice, at a juvenile facility.

Michael seems to still count Bush and his other tormenter as his friends. He's been defending them. He said the knife attack was just a game gone wrong, and he doesn't believe they ever meant to do him harm.

"“My son is a staunch defender of his tormentors; it’s embarrassing,” Michael's father told the Washington Post. “He may be more disabled than I convinced myself that he was and maybe more lost than I realized. That’s something I am going to have to deal with on a later day. Right now, I am trying to get justice for him and others like him.”

While 80 years might have been excessive, Michael’s father and many others feel four years is not nearly enough for the girl to pay for her crimes.
