Will Trump Even Get to Rerun in 2020? Jeff Flake Might Thwart Those Plans

President Donald Trump has already mentioned that he has plans to run for re-election in 2020, but the deal is not sealed. There may be some Republican challengers stepping up to see if they can snatch the nomination away from the controversial POTUS. Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) says he is considering running.

It's uncommon for Americans to unseat a sitting president. Even with low approval ratings, sitting presidents are more than likely to win re-election. It's almost unheard of for a president with intentions to run for re-election to not win his party's nomination during the primaries, but it can happen.

With how crazy politics have been this past couple of years, it wouldn't be surprising if the unthinkable happened.

Jeff Sessions, the Republican senator from Arizona, is heading to New Hampshire soon, according to the Associated Press. It's possible he might be feeling out the possibility of challenging Trump in 2020. The senator has always been an extremely vocal critic of the POTUS.

He's even gone so far as to say that the Republican Party might not deserve to lead the country if they continue to support Donald Trump.

"It's not in my plan to run for president, but I am not ruling it out. Somebody needs to stand up for traditional Republicanism," said the conservative.

New Hampshire is famously known for being one of the earliest primary states, and the results of their elections usually determine the way the rest of the country will likely go. Flake won't admit at this point that he's planning any actual rallies.

“I’m just going for the weather," Flake told CNN.

It would be a difficult undertaking to unseat an incumbent in a primary election, but with Trump's support having fallen among Republicans, it wouldn't be impossible. A lot of conservatives are unhappy with Trump's proposed DACA deal, the fact that he's still behind on getting the wall built, and that he may be caving in to gun control pressure.

Many are also nervous about his ability to win re-election, considering his controversial Twitter posts and the scandal threatening to break over an alleged affair with porn star Stormy Daniels.

Some conservatives weren’t thrilled about having to vote for Trump in the first place. If a more appealing candidate with a more proven conservative track record were to come along and challenge Trump, it could be a major election upset.

Mark Cuban, a conservative billionaire and reality star, much like the president, has always been openly opposed to Trump. He's toyed with the idea of running himself, just to get Trump out of office. He told the Associated Press that he is a fan of Flake, and would throw his support behind the senator.

Trump seems to be confident that he can secure a win in 2020. He's already released his campaign slogan, 'Keep America Great', a play on his previous slogan, 'Make America Great Again'. He's speculated at rallies that he would love to win against a celebrity such as Oprah Winfrey or George Clooney-- two stars that Democratic voters often say they wish would run.

He seems like he’s ready to put up another fight. No one thought Trump would win the Republican nomination in 2016, though, so the President’s appeal to conservatives shouldn’t be underestimated.
