Trump Supporter Gives Actor Robert De Niro A Taste Of His Own Medicine

Last week, on Sunday, Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro disrupted the Tony awards broadcast by flinging an insult at President Donald Trump that needed to be bleeped out. Now, a lone Trump supporter set out to disrupt De Niro's “A Bronx Tale: The Musical”.

De Niro has never been a huge fan of President Donald Trump. Even during the election, De Niro supported Trump's opponent, Hillary Clinton, and would frequently call Trump names. He vowed that if Trump won, he would move to Italy.

When Trump did win, De Niro didn't move, but he was clearly furious over the election results. De Niro began ranting against Trump, calling Trump an 'idiot', saying he'd like to punch the president in the face. He claims Trump 'lacks compassion'.

Recently, when opening a location for his restaurant, Nobu, in Canada, the actor said that Trump would not be welcome to eat there. Later, Nobu's representatives clarified that the president was not banned from the restaurant.

At the 2018 Tony Awards, De Niro took the stage to introduce Bruce Springsteen. Instead, he took the time to bash the president yet again. He walked on stage and said, "I’m going to say one thing: ‘F--- Trump,’” he said. “It’s no longer ‘down with Trump,' it’s ‘f--- Trump.’”

The audience gave De Niro a standing ovation, though the speech became a subject of controversy.

A Trump supporter went to a performance of “A Bronx Tale: The Musical”, an adaption of the film. De Niro is the director. The fan waited until the end of the show, and, at a curtain call, jumped up to stage his pro-Trump protest.

The fan pulled a flag out that said 'TRUMP 2020" and began waving it around.

“Keep America Great!” he shouted at the audience.

According to those who attended the performance, most apparently didn't even notice the man, or completely ignored him. They were focused on the stage. Most people became aware of the incident after it was reported on social media.

“It’s sad that people can’t enjoy a beautiful show and embrace its unifying message without politicizing it,” said one person.

Ironically, it is similar sentiments many have been expressing after award shows have been hijacked by political speech makers.

“Whoever the low life scum bag who thinks it’s ok to post their political views at a Broadway show and disrespect everyone there who paid to watch a show that is ALL ABOUT INCLUSION was thankfully removed from the theater Saturday night,” wrote another person.

According to reports, the man was escorted out of the Longacre theater without incident.

De Niro caused an uproar after his speech that didn’t sit well even with some of his biggest fans. One man, who had a portrait of De Niro hanging in his home, filmed a video of himself smashing the portrait, tearing up the image and throwing the whole piece of celebrity memorabilia in the trash.

Even other liberal celebrities have spoken out to say De Niro crossed a line. Film maker Rob Reiner criticized the actor for the comment.

“You’re helping Trump by saying ‘F--- Trump,’ because he can say 'look at these people, these elitists,' ” said Reiner. "There’s a very fine line between energizing the base and energizing the other side.”
