Stormy Weather Brewing For White House: Porn Star Sues President Over 'Invalid' Hush Agreement

The porn star who allegedly had an affair with President Donald Trump years ago is suing him now to free her from the nondisclosure agreement she signed. Her attorneys claim that the document is invalid because Trump never signed it himself, and she's offering to return the $130,000 in hush money so that she can speak openly about the relationship.

Stephanie Clifford, who is more commonly known by 'Stormy Daniels', her professional name, finally went on the record on Wednesday. She confirmed that the news of her having an affair with Donald Trump is true, and that during the 2016 election she was paid hush money and asked to sign the agreement to stay silent on the issue.

Daniels gave an interview to In Touch about the alleged affair several years before Trump ran for president. At the time, the media source says they were careful to check sources, and that Daniels even passed a lie detector test about the relationship.

They ultimately decided not to run the story back then to avoid any legal scuffles with Trump when he was a reality star.

Now that he's president, it's a different story, and the lost interview has resurfaced.

Previously, Daniels attempted to honor that agreement and refused to talk about the accusations. More recently, however, she's come forward to say that the president's personal lawyer rendered it invalid by publicly confirming it.

Michael Cohen admitted there was an agreement, and also said that he paid Daniels the money from his own pocket — and that Trump has never paid him back for the hush money. He has insisted that Trump was not involved in any agreement, directly or indirectly, and that Trump continues to deny the affair.

Daniels is now suing the president to be released from it, citing that it's unenforceable because he never signed it himself.

The relationship reportedly began shortly after Melania Trump gave birth to son, Barron Trump, and continued until 2007. Trump, then a reality TV star, had promised to help further the porn star's career by getting her on his show, 'The Apprentice'.

She said when he confessed he wouldn't be able to do that, she ended the relationship, though she says Trump continued to call her for years.

Daniels' attorney, Michael Avenatti, told the 'Today' show that his client is prepared to come forward and set the record straight 'in light of the amount of misinformation that’s out there, some of which has been disseminated by Mr. Cohen and others'.

"She believes it's important that the public learn the truth about what happened," said Avenatti.

Avenatti dismisses the story that Cohen made the agreement and paid hush money without Trump knowing about it.

"The idea that an attorney would go off on his own without his client’s knowledge and engage in this type of negotiation and enter into this type of agreement, quite honestly I think is ludicrous," he added.

Cohen has responded to the lawsuit in a statement.

“The complaint alleges that I somehow violated campaign finance laws by facilitating an excess, in-kind contribution,” the statement reads. “The allegations in the complaint are factually unsupported and without legal merit, and my counsel has submitted a response to the FEC.”
