Roseanne Barr Considers Running for Prime Minister of Israel, Gets Chummy with President Trump

Comedian Roseanne Barr seemingly came out of nowhere this year and inserted herself into America's political divide. Now, she's considering inserting herself into politics in another country: Israel. It seems her political ambitions are only getting bigger.

Barr rebooted her popular 90's sit-com, 'Roseanne', last month, and it's been a surprise hit. During the show's initial run from 1988 through 1997, it was seen as a rare voice of the working class of middle America in situation comedies. In the reboot, it should not have been surprising then that the titular character would be a huge supporter of Donald Trump.

With the country deeply divided, and most of Hollywood firmly planted in the anti-Trump side of the chasm, the entertainment industry was shocked to see the premier of the reboot garner an audience of over 18 million on the first night it aired. Since then, viewership has grown to more than 27 million.

Barr is a Trump supporter in real life, but she says that's not the reason she felt her character would have voted for Trump. "I didn’t have Roseanne the character become a Trump supporter because I am," she said. "I had her become a Trump supporter because she’s a working-class person and it is the working class that elected Donald Trump. So, in being true to that little demographic, I had to do it."

She also adds that she wanted one character on the show to be a Trump supporter, but none of the other returning actors wanted to do it.

President Trump called Barr to congratulate her for her success. "He said, 'Congratulations on the ratings.' He’s really into ratings like I am," Barr said, according to the Daily Mail.

Barr thanked the president for his foreign policy involving Israel. The Jewish actress thanked the president in particular for accomplishing something many presidents have promised but have failed to deliver: moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem.

The move was extremely controversial given the Israeli-Palestine conflict. Both recognize the city as their own.

"I said, 'Mr. President, on behalf of my mother, I want to thank you... for moving the embassy to Jerusalem. Thank you so much'," she said.

"And he said, 'Well, you know a lot of presidents have promised it, but I wanted to get it done'," she added.

Barr believes that this move has put the Middle East on the road to peace. She hopes one day to move there and get involved in politics.

"I want to move to Israel and run for prime minister... I do have that fantasy. If God calls me, I’ll go," she revealed.

"I'm 65 years old and I'm running out of time to do what I always dreamed of doing [which] was to be living there and be able to study the things that excite me. I still have the fantasy of being an old Jewish lady living in the Jewish homeland, so someday I will do it," she affirmed, noting that she'd like to buy a farm in the country.

Her dreams of moving may have to wait, though. 'Roseanne' has already been renewed for an eleventh season. And as the next election year draws even closer, the show could end up getting a lot of attention.
