Alec Baldwin Believes He Could Beat President If He Ran Against Him In The 2020 Election

Actor Alec Baldwin believes that he could give President Donald Trump a real run for his money in the 2020 election. Unfortunately for Baldwin fans, though, the celebrity is not likely going to run. If he did, he's confident he could fix the country's problems because he feels it just takes 'common sense'.

Baldwin has made it pretty clear over the last couple of years that he is no fan of Trump. He's become well known for portraying Trump unfavorably in SNL skits. He's been vocally opposed to most of Trump's policies since taking office. He's engaged in twitter wars with Trump. The Democrat now says he can beat Trump, if he wanted to run.

The actor sat for an interview with Howard Stern and said he thinks he could knock Trump out of the White House. “If I ran for president, I would win. Hands down, I would win,” Baldwin said. “It would be the funniest, most exciting, craziest campaign.”

Thankfully, Baldwin admits it’s just fantasizing right now, when the Democratic Party is still contemplating a long list of potential frontrunners for the next election and there is no clear party leader emerging. But Baldwin also feels that fixing the country is all about using common sense, something no other president in the past or present has apparently ever applied.

“Somebody great is going to come up, I hope…. I’d love to run for that kind of position to just have things be very common sense. There are so many things that this country needs to do that are so obvious,” said the confident actor.

Baldwin has spoken about running for president before. In a speaking engagement at George Washington University he boasted that he would make a great president.

Unfortunately for Baldwin fans, it's probably not going to happen. He also has said that the lifestyle he leads would probably clash with the demands of the highest office in the land.

If Baldwin did run, he may not have as easy a lock on a win as he thinks. Like Trump, he has a past riddled with scandals. He's abused drugs and alcohol. He had a show promptly cancelled for an obscene homophobic slur. He could be heard ranting at his 11-year-old daughter on an audio recording, telling her, "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig. You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being."

These kinds of things would probably not fly well with voters, even if they were Democrats. Baldwin may champion the party but that doesn’t mean his life has been in line with the party’s values. In addition, it is always a little concerning when celebrities run for office, claiming that the solutions to our complex nation are just ‘common sense’ and an easy fix. It makes them sound extremely naïve when it comes to politics, which doesn’t make them a very desirable candidate.

It’s unclear if Baldwin even realizes that the balance of powers doesn’t let the president just go in and make whatever changes he sees fit.

Baldwin thinks the debates and election battle in general would be a riot if he took part, though. Still, there is more to running the country than just getting attention.
