Actor Stephen Fry Stuns Fans With Heartbreaking Announcement On His Personal Blog

British actor Stephen Fry has been out of the public eye for some time, and longtime fans have been wondering why that’s the case. Fry has come forward to explain what the deal is, and he proceeded to shock and sadden while sharing some heartbreaking news on his personal blog.

As the Mirror shares, Fry posted a video in which he explained that he’s been battling cancer.

"For the last two months I’ve been in the throes of a rather unwelcome and unexpected adventure. I’m sorry I haven’t felt able to talk about it till now, but here I am explaining what has been going on," Fry said.

He would go on to explain that the results of a routine blood test didn’t look right to his physician, and that inspired even more tests. Fry would go on to have a transrectal biopsy, an experience that he explains was far from a pleasant experience.

"It's not an experience I would recommend to my worst enemy, it was really rather unpleasant feeling, like taking an ice core in the poles," he said.

"And they took these two bits out of me just to be sure and the next day, it was 'yes, indeed, there is a cancer there. An adenocarcinoma."

Fry has prostate cancer, and he’s had to undergo surgery and treatment in a bid to eradicate it.

"So, what's next? You have to recover and that's what I've been doing in case you're wondering why I've been out of the public eye... I'm sure you haven't.’ I have been keeping my head down as much as possible because obviously you want to get better without strangers - with all the best intent in the world - sending you cards and flowers and letters because you have to answer them all and I wasn't quite up to that, “ he continued.

Time has provided him with a different perspective on things, and he felt that the time was right to share the news with his fans.

"I know it's a cliché but you don't think cancer is going to happen to you, you think it's something that happens to other people. You're probably looking into my eyes now and thinking, 'oh yes, he's the cancery kind of person,” Fry added. "That's how one looks at people who have cancer."

As for his prognosis, Fry is far from certain about exactly what the future holds.

"So far as we know, it's all been got. But I won't know until my PSA levels are checked, and they should be zero because I've got no prostate,” he said. "But if there is anything left on the bed of the prostate then maybe I will need radiotherapy and the whole damn thing will start again."

Fry would continue by urging folks to be proactive about their own health concerns, particularly what he referred to as men “of a certain age” when it comes to prostate health.

"I'm bloody lucky. Lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people, lucky to have had such an incredible team working with me,” he added. “Here's hoping I've got another few years on this planet because I enjoy life at the moment, and that's a marvelous thing to be able to say.”
