NYC Mayor Just Embarrassed Himself After Trying To Bully Chic-Fil-A Over This

Contemporary America is divided on many issues and the role of religion has become a particularly incendiary topic in New York City after Mayor, Bill de Blasio attempted to boycott fast food restaurant, Chick-fil-A. Major Blasio encouraged New York citizens to stop supporting the restaurant’s ‘message of hate’ after the Company President, Dan Cathy informed a reporter of his belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman, stoking outrage amongst many members of the LGBTQI community and hundreds of other liberal Americans. There are three Chick-fil-A locations throughout New York with the first restaurant opening its doors in 2015. The franchise has attracted both praise and criticism for being a very religious organization, built on Christian beliefs and enforcing strict ethics codes when hiring employees.

Mayor Blasio, a vocal advocate for people’s right to marry whoever they want, has been criticized for promoting freedom of marriage while hypocritically calling for a boycott of a restaurant chain. After it was announced that new Chick-fil-A would be opening in Queens in 2016, Mayor Blasio released a statement, saying: This group imparts a strong anti-LGBT message by forcing their employees and volunteers to adhere to a policy that prohibits same-sex love. It is outrageous that Chick-fil-A is quietly spreading its message of hate by funding these types of organizations. I’m certainly not going to patronize them and I wouldn’t urge any other New Yorker to patronize them”. However, the Mayor’s message was met with ambivalence by most New Yorkers. In fact, business at New York Chick-fil-A restaurants has been booming with many customers coming out in support of the restaurant’s food and culture. One notable source of support was famed internet personality and openly gay man, Antoine Dodson, who said: “The people at the restaurants are sweet, and they greet me kindly. If we stop coming, them hardworking people in that building no longer have jobs”.

In response to Mayor Blasio’s comments, Chick-fil-A released a statement, saying: "The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity, and respect — regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender".
