Woman Notices A Can Floating In The Water, Reaches For It - Her Hand Gets Bitten Off

Kimberly Anne Sexton didn’t want to litter so she went after the can that she dropped in the water. Her giving a hoot almost cost Sexton her hand. The Florida woman was sent to critical condition after a 5-ft alligator jumped out of the water and almost bit her hand clean off, according to MailOnline.

Two people who were standing nearby came to the 49-year-old’s aid by grabbing her legs so the reptile didn’t pull her under water. They eventually got the gator to let go of her, but by that time her hand was dangling from her wrist by a stringy piece of flesh.

“The hand was still attached though it was a very severe,” said Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles told MailOnline. “The whole time they [medics] were there, the alligator was right there in the water.”

Sexton lost a tremendous amount of blood by the time medics arrived at Willard’s Fish Camp in the Everglades, near Fort Lauderdale, as her hand was “almost fully amputated.”

Sexton was transferred to Broward Health North Trauma Center and place in critical condition. Doctors say she got to the hospital during the “golden hour” for trauma care.

“The chances for survival greatly diminish after that,” Jachles said.
