Woman Heard Unusual Noises Coming From Swamp Behind Her House- Makes Cruel Discovery

A woman living in rural North Carolina was out in her back yard hanging up some laundry when she thought she heard some unusual sounds. Living with acres and acres of swampland behind her property, she had pretty much gotten used to all the normal sounds of nature and wouldn't usually pay much attention to the wildlife.

However, this new and unusual sound, which sounded like a faint whimpering, really caught her attention. She went to investigate and could not believe what she discovered.

Jessica Clayborn followed the cries that seemed to be coming from the murky waters not far from her yard. She waded into the swamp, brushing away reeds and bushes, until she came across the source of the sound.

There, on a swell of dry ground in the middle of the marshy wetlands, she spotted a little puppy.

The very young dog had been tied to a tree with a rope by some cruel person. The rope was tied tightly around the puppy's neck, and was cutting into his flesh.

Clayborn waded even deeper into the mud because she knew she had to save the little pup. Thankfully she had a pocket knife with her and was easily able to cut the ropes. She scooped up the tan-colored pooch and brought him back to safety.

The poor puppy was exhausted, with rope wounds on his neck. His fur and ears were infested with insects, and he looked like he had chemical burns. Clayborn knew there was no way the little dog could have gotten through the swamp and tangled up with the tree.

Someone had deliberately brought him out there, tied him up and left the little guy out there to die.

“There’s no way he could have made it through the mud on his own and ended up tangled around a tree like that,” said Clayborn to her local SPCA. “I barely made it through the mud.”

“He probably would have been somebody’s snack,” she added.

Photos of the poor dog, who could barely lift his head or open his eyes when he was rescued, are heartbreaking.

The dog was dubbed 'Nash', and the SPCA immediately went into action to nurse him back to health. Thankfully, Nash is a fighter, and he's made a lot of progress in a short period of time. Within a week he was healed up enough for a foster home.

"His foster family says he was timid when he first arrived last week, but has started to relax and blossom,” said Tara Lynn, an SPCA spokesperson, to The Dodo. “In general, they say he is fairly mellow.”

One thing they noticed about Nash, however, is that the dog doesn't seem to respond to sound. It is suspected that due to the abuse and neglect he suffered from insects and chemical burns, Nash might be deaf. It is also possible he could have been born deaf, and that might have been why the cruel person abandoned him.

Either way, it doesn't really matter. Nash is a lovable pup making tremendous strides with the love and care he's getting now. The SPCA and his foster family expect to help him find a forever home. An adoption is already pending, and once that goes through, this guy will never have to worry about being abused or neglected again.
