WIll This 9 Second Video End Young NFL Hopeful's Career Before It Starts?

For college football players with aspirations of playing in the NFL, they quickly find out that they are under the microscope at all times. Any potential red flags will quickly become magnified tenfold, as stories of bad behavior by the brightest prospects quickly gain a ton of traction. Sometimes, that traction is warranted as the behavior leans towards the disturbing side, but other times there’s a bit of a grey area.

As Yahoo shares, it sounds like that’s the case for former Baylor football player Ishmael Zamora, a talented wide receiver that was considered an appealing prospect. His appeal has dimmed substantially after video began making the rounds of him being abusive towards his dog. Baylor student Shelby Ball uploaded the nine-second clip to social media, and it took off like wildfire.

“Dogs can’t speak for themselves, I felt something had to be done,” she explains.

In the video, it looks like Zamora has lost his patience with the dog, and that leads him to become abusive. The post quickly blew up as Zamora was roundly blasted, and commenters have had a field day picking him apart. He’s essentially being viewed as persona-non-grata at this point, but one former NFL general manager feels others may be jumping to conclusions.

“I felt bad for the kid. He was almost crying. He said: ‘I would never hurt that dog, he’s my baby.’ There was no B.S. with him. Believe me, I’ve been doing this a long time. [I] know when guy’s are B.S.-ing. There was no B.S. at all with this kid,” said Ken Herock, who runs a program preparing players for team interviews at the combine.

The clip of Zamora undoubtedly portrays him in a negative light, but it’s also such a short clip that points to the need for more information. Whether he’ll get the chance to explain his case or not to potential employers in the NFL is unclear at this time.
