University Student Gets Comeuppance After She Tries To Slap A Police Horse

After a slew of horse-slapping incidents, a young woman from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, had received a dose of karma after she was caught slapping the hindquarters of a police horse.

The initial incident, which was caught on camera in broad daylight, began when the unnamed university student ran towards two mounted police officers in the middle of the road.

The viral video, which was recently uploaded to Vice.com, shows the moment that the unidentified blonde girl – dressed in a blue, orange and yellow polo sweater – gently slaps the closest horse on the rump.

A split-second later, the police horse kicks the young woman in the back with its powerful hind legs, sending her sprawling face first onto the road.

According to the police officer riding the horse, whose name is ‘Murney’, the animal’s response to being slapped by a person who had run out of nowhere had been uncharacteristically muted. Despite being "startled by slaps,” Murney “kept her restraint," said the unnamed officer.

The video ends with the embarrassed woman picking herself off the ground and staggering out of camera view. As she walks away, the unnamed student has her hands pressed over her face, making it difficult to determine if she suffered any longer-term injuries.

The incident occurs in the middle of a police blitz against horse-slapping. In fact, another female student, and two male students from Queen’s University, have already been charged for slapping police animals.

This news dropped after the Twitter account for the Kingston Police Department announced: “Disappointing news from #QueensHomecoming. Our new horse, Murney, was slapped 3X tonight. No injuries. 2 men & 1 women charged criminally.”

The other horse-slapping arrests, which were made after the Queens Homecoming, made up a small number of the police department’s total number of arrests during the boozy night. In total, 19 arrests were made, and the Kingston Police Department managed to file 166 charges while police officers mingled with the Homecoming crowd.

According to Vice, slapping a police horse is a criminal offence. Although a penalty of five years imprisonment can be given (in the event of a situation that could be fatal to pets), prosecutors rarely demand such harsh punishment.

The charges and penalties facing the three currently detained students remain unclear at this point in time. According to Global News, the trio could be facing individual financial penalties of up to $10,000 each.

Mr. Koopman, a constable with the Kingston Police Department, believes that horse-slappers will get away with their disruptive attitudes this time.

“What will happen with all three accused, in this case the two men and the 18-year-old female,” said Koopman, “is that charge will be withdrawn and we will be going with the charges of mischief and obstruct police by interfering with a lawful execution of their duty.”

Authorities remain deeply befuddled by the sudden surge in the number of people wanting to smack police horses without permission or reason.
