Pride Of Lions Intervene When Group Of Men Attack 12-Year-Old Girl

Every once in awhile, there’s a story that makes the rounds that makes you stop and say ‘wow!’ This is one of those stories. As NBC News shares, the story revolves around a 12-year-old girl from Ethiopia that was suffering from abuse, but she would soon have a pack of protectors putting an end to it.

The girl had been abducted from her village by a group of seven men. The intention was that she would be forced to marry one of them, and they weren’t gentle about it. The girl would suffer extensive abuse at the hands of the men, and it was so extreme that she was simply whimpering for mercy in the woods. Those cries apparently got the attention of a pack of lions, and the story took a fascinating turn.

It appears that the lions chased off her captors to prevent the further abuse of the girl. What’s more, they stood guard over her until help arrived. The girl suffered absolutely no harm as a result of her interaction with the lions, who would simply scurry away without incident once the girl was finally rescued.

“They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest,” explains local authority Sgt. Wondimu Wedajo

The incredible story quickly gained a lot of traction, and even those that experienced it firsthand are having a hard time wrapping their heads around it.

“Everyone thinks this is some kind of miracle, because normally the lions would attack people,” Wedajo continued.

Wildlife expert Stuart Williams provided some insight into what may have happened.

“A young girl whimpering could be mistaken for the mewing sound from a lion cub, which in turn could explain why they didn’t eat her,” he said.

Regardless of the reason, the pack of lions is now a very big part of local legend.
