President Trump Only On The Job Two-Thirds Of The Time - Rest Spent At His Properties

It seems that President Trump is not too fond of the White House. The president, who is spending the Christmas holiday at his exclusive Florida resort, has apparently spent almost one-third of his time since inauguration at one or another of his properties.

A complete review by the Wall Street Journal this week determined Trump has visited his private properties 100 times, including 40 days at his golf resort in Bedminster, NJ, and 40 days at Mar-a-Lago, unofficially known these days as the “Winter White House.”

Note that the Republican president checked into his Palm Beach, Fla., resort last Friday and is planning to remain there for 10 days.

The WSJ article pointed out that other presidents often spent time away at private homes they owned, such as President George H.W. Bush with his home in Kennebunk, Maine, or even rented accommodations such as President Obama did last year in Hawaii.

By the same token, many presidents have spent weekends or vacations at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland.

Trump, however, is the only president who stays at businesses he owns but others pay to stay, the article highlighted, which obviously leads to questions since doing so makes it appear as though Trump is promoting one of his properties to maximize his personal profits.

In one recent example, Trump and members of his entourage made a stop in Hawaii on their return flight to Washington, DC, after his trip through Asia last month. Despite the fact that refueling will only take a half an hour, Donald decided to visit the Trump International Hotel Waikiki, with White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders eventually calling it a “tremendously successful project.”

“George W. Bush went to his ranch in Crawford, Texas, a lot, but it’s not like you could rent the bedroom next to his,” Jordan Libowitz, a spokesman for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, explained in an interview for the WSJ article.

Also keep in mind that all of these trips to Trump’s properties are paid for the taxpayers.

In fact, taxpayers have footed the bill for $6 million in 2017 for Trump’s air travel to Mar-a-Lago, based on Air Force records. That figure is air travel only, and does not include the extra expenses of Secret Service and Coast Guard security.

The WSJ report pointed out Obama and his family spent an average of around $1 million a month on travel, while Trump’s air travel cost to Florida alone is averaging close to $1.5 million a month.

The fact that Trump is on vacation around one-third of the time is particularly ironic given that during last year’s presidential campaign the Republican candidate frequently mocked Obama for the time he spent golfing on vacation and said he would not be the kind of president who took vacations.

“I would rarely leave the White House because there’s so much work to be done,” Trump claimed in a campaign speech in the summer of 2015.

However, it turns out that during his visits to Mar-a-Lago, Trump has spent 20 days golfing at his courses in nearby Jupiter or West Palm Beach.

Moreover, when he is at the White House, records show that Trump has played at his golf course in Potomac Falls, Va. on close to 25 additional occasions.
