Police Officer Attempts To Shoot Dog, Misses - Child Pays The Ultimate Price

The Columbus Police Department is facing some questions about the accidental shooting of a four-year-old by one of their officers. According to 10TV, the cop pulled out his gun when he thought he was being attacked by the same family’s dog.

The unidentified police officer was in the neighborhood on routine business relating to a previous case, when he was alerted by a neighbor that someone needed medical attention. Just a few seconds later, a gunshot would ring out. According to the Columbus Police Department, the family’s dog had charged at the officer.

“The officer fires one shot at the dog, misses the dog and accidentally shoots a four-year- old in the leg,” explains police spokesperson Denise Alex-Bouzounis.

Neighbors would immediately contact 911, and the child was taken to the nearby Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where she is expected to fully recover. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and neighbors are still questioning how this could have happened.

“I don’t know why you would raise a gun. I really don’t agree with him just pulling his gun out and trying to shoot the dog,” one neighbor said.
