Parents Use K9 Services To See If Son is Hiding Drugs in His Room

Teenage usage of narcotics and alcohol is often a subject of great concern for parents. The availability and commonplace usage of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine is a worrying trend affecting the youth of America.

In 2016, the preventative actions of a young man’s mother and father received national news traction and social media attention. The unnamed couple were based in Louisville, Kentucky and had been concerned about their son’s smoking habits, suspecting that he was using marijuana recreationally.

To find out more about their child’s suspected drug habit, the unidentified parents contacted a man named Michael Davis. Mr Davis is employed by ‘The Last Chance K9 Service’, a privately-owned company offer rigorous house searches. The company is developing a large clientele based made up of parents who suspect their children of having secrets. In this case, the Louisville home was searched by Mr David and his drug-sniffing dog.

The young boy’s parents had thought he was smoking marijuana but the drug search revealed the true extent of their son’s drug use. In a tragic turn of events, Mr Davis’s dog was drawn to a cupboard in the boy’s room and discovered approximately 4 grams of heroin in a pair of socks. Heroin is a highly addictive opiate that has been linked to numerous health dangers and damaging social behavior. Moreover, heroin is one of the deadliest street drugs in America with over 8000 heroin-related deaths reported by the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) in 2013, largely because of overdosing.

‘The Last Chance K9 Service’ was founded in 2015 and has since been contracted for over 50 searches of property. The searches and discoveries are confidential and can help parents engage with their children through the early detection of drug usage. Parents need to understand the rising availability highly addictive, low-cost substances on the streets.

Education, open discussion and an awareness of the consequences of drug use is crucial to prevent it from becoming more of a problem in America then it already is. Companies like ‘The Last Chance K9 Service’ can save lives and help prevent young, misguided children from ending up addicted, in jail or worse.
