Onlookers Sigh As Adorable Golden Retriever Bonds With New Owner After Being Adopted

Dogs have a well-earned reputation for being man’s best friend. This reputation didn’t come out of thin air. Once given a loving home environment, a dog’s fierce loyalty is only matched by its love and compassion. Moreover, training your dog is relatively easy if you have plenty of patience, time and snacks.

One recent dog story is going viral for all the right reasons. When Steve Moore of Altoona, Pennsylvania, adopted Jackson, a beautiful 3-year-old golden retriever, he had no idea that he had just embarked on a road to local fame.

Three weeks after adopting the shelter dog, Steve and Jackson were inseparable. The pair spent days on end getting to know each other and Jackson quickly bonded to his new owner. The relationship between the man and his new friend was so strong that Steve was able to teach the 3-year-old dog some amazing new tricks.

When Steve first adopted Jackson, he was concerned by the golden retriever’s tendency to wander away and impulsively follow scents or noises. However, after spending two weeks training with Steve, Jackson’s impulsive behavior had given way to more disciplined traits. Now, when Steve tells Jackson to sit, the dog will only move when he calls him. The dog’s incredible discipline has even landed him on local news.

When customers arrive at the Altoona Target, they are often amazed to see a furry golden retriever sitting outside without a care in the world. In fact, Steve is so confident in Jackson that he leaves him without a leash in the high-traffic area.

Just in case people think that Jackson has been abandoned, Steve often hangs a sign on him reading: “DAD TOLD ME TO WAIT HERE. ME WAITING.” In a video uploaded to YouTube, Steve saw how many people approach Jackson when he is outside Target and admire how well-trained he is.

Steve also noticed that dozens of locals wish they could take Jackson home with them. “That is incredible,” says one Target customer after noticing Jackson waiting for Steve. Another member of the public gives the good dog pats for more than five minutes, telling him: “You are precious.”

For his part, Steve is just amazed at how differently people view Jackson since he was adopted from the shelter. “I just find that amazing because 4 weeks ago, nobody wanted him,” he told Animal Channel.

When asked about Jackson’s training regimen, Steve highlighted the important role of treats. “You can train any dog,” Steve emphasized. “It’s all just about the attitude you have and what you’re willing to bring to the table to interest the dog.” Some of Jackson’s favorite treats are molasses and blueberries.

Golden retrievers continue to be one of the most popular dog breeds in America. Dog Time describes the breed as “friendly” and notes that their “tolerant attitude…and their intelligence” make them great dogs for family and work.

Steve spoke to WTAJ about his own experience with Jackson the golden retriever, saying: “I just get a real feeling of satisfaction in working with the dog and bringing out his potential. I’ve seen what he can do.”
