Officer Break Into Home, Shoot Eachother, Kill Family Dog, Finally Realize They Made Huge Mistake

A shooting incident Monday night in Georgia resulted in injuries to a police officer and a resident, as well as the death of a dog, according to AJC.com.

The website reported that three cops, attempting to investigate a call regarding a “suspicious person,” knocked on the wrong door. Director of Public Safety Cedric Alexander claimed the officers did not have an address, so they went to the house that met the 911 caller’s description.

After the officers entered the unlocked home, looking for the suspicious person, a conflict broke out. One cop was shot in his thigh, which required emergency surgery.

“A lot is yet to be determined here as to what and when shots were fired, how the officer received injuries, how the homeowner received injuries,” Alexander said. “But we did respond to the wrong residence tonight. … Our thoughts and prayers go out the homeowner; and our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer who suffered a severe, critical injury here tonight and lost a lot of blood. We just hope both of them recover well.”

A neighbor, Bob Gilman, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “This is the southeast side of town, so we do have a lot of crime over here, robberies, burglaries, shootings. Southeast Atlanta is a relatively high-crime area that I live in.”

Alexander said authorities have placed the officers on administrative leave, pending an investigation.
