Mom Woke By Son's Screams, Horrified When She Sees What's Hanging From His Face

Australia is renowned for its ferocious mammals, venomous arachnids, and deadly reptiles. The reputation is well earned with many people getting up close and personal with crocodiles and sharks at the beach, experiencing near-fatal spider bites within homes and recently, close calls with pythons in the bedroom. A young boy named Tyler from Macksville in northern New South Wales, Australia was awoken in the middle of the night by a snake attacking him. The snake has been identified as a python and it bit Tyler several times before lunging towards his neck, face, and head.

Tyler’s mother, Tammy, was startled by screams coming from her son’s bedroom. The terrified mother raced to the room and saw a terrifying scene: the python was biting down on her son’s head while he lay prostrate on the bed. Heroically, Tammy managed to pry the snake loose and presumably drag it to another room. The snake was a wild animal and there were no pets in the household, wildlife experts have theorized that the snake came into the house to seek shelter from the cold and wind. Pythons are not venomous snakes and are usually quite docile, this kind of snake is also renowned for constricting its prey rather than biting. Therefore, Australian animal experts believe that Tyler must have rolled onto the snake in the night, prompting the aggressive biting. Once Tammy got the snake away from her son, she quickly snapped a photo of his bleeding face before taking him to the hospital. Tammy later shared the photo of Tyler on Facebook along with a short description of the incident.

While she was widely praised for her brave actions, several people criticized her for taking the photo while her son was still bleeding and in need of medical attention.

The snake in question was killed by a local friend of Tammy. The friend posted a photo of himself holding up the massive length of the dead snake. According to Tammy’s Facebook post, Tyler has made a full recovery and is still sleeping soundly every night.
