Mom Sure Her Baby's Dead After Fire, Then She Realizes What The Dog Sacrificed

A new mom named Erika Poremski went out to get something from her car. Two minutes later she was horrified when she looked back at the house and saw her home was on fire.

Erika ran back to the house because her 6-month-old daughter Vivian and amazing dog Polo were still inside. She attempted to get back inside the house, but the fire was so intense she could not get in and she suffered severe burns to her face and her hands.

Poremski described what happened: “She was up the stairs, but the fire [and] smoke was so heavy I couldn’t get past it… I kept running back out and back in, trying to get up there. Then, the door curling started falling and I couldn’t get back in…[I didn’t even] see all the skin was off my hand from grabbing the rail and it melted off.”

Inside the house, however, it seems that a miracle had occurred.

When the flames began to rage throughout the house, apparently her loyal dog Polo used his own body to shield the her daughter from the heat and flames.

The firefighters explained to Erika the animal had obviously sacrificed his life to protect the baby from the fire.

The brave dog had managed to cover up the majority of the baby’s body, so the infant just had burns across 19% of her body.

Miraculously, firefighters were able to revive Vivian and get her to the hospital, where she eventually recovered fully.

Polo the loyal dog, however, did not make it.

“He was my first baby before Viv. He was like my child,” Erika commented about Polo. “He followed us everywhere.”

Erika also pointed out that the dog had been acting a bit strange all day. She was thinking about taking him to be checked out, but decided to wait a bit. Perhaps Polo had a canine sixth sense that something was wrong in the house, and possibly even smelled burning wires or whatever it was that caused the sudden fire.

Erik can’t say enough good things about Polo: “He was everything to me along with my daughter. I’m losing everything I love in the blink of an eye…”
