Instagram Celebrity Faces Backlash After Photo Shows Poor Treatment Of Protected Wildlife

A man who has declared himself the 'King of Instagram' has garnered millions of followers and views by posting photos of himself with scantily-clad women and big guns. On a recent trip, he had one of his bikini beauties straddle a 100-year-old Galapagos giant tortoise for a snapshot. He's getting a lot of backlash from animal lovers and environmentalists.

Dan Bilzerian, a wealthy trust-fund recipient and professional poker player, visited Sir Richard Branson's Necker Island recently and posed for a shot with the endangered species. The protected species is listed as 'vulnerable' by the World Wildlife Fund, and the island is involved in conservation efforts. Employees of the island ask people not to touch or disturb the wildlife, but Bilzerian doesn't believe the rules apply to him.

Bilzerian had his recent female companion, clad in a bikini, sit on top of the tortoise’s back for a photo. He's known for photos of nearly naked women or naked women with carefully arranged props covering their body parts. He's also a gun enthusiast and is always showing off his fire power.

When he posted the photo of a woman on a poor tortoise to Instagram, many people thought he'd gone too far.

"I'm very disappointed to see your beautiful protected creatures as zoo rides," said Jamison Ernest, owner of Yellow Fever Clothing.

"Probably not cool for your friend to sit on its back," said an Instagram user offended by the post.

"Get off your soapbox, the people working there said it's fine to sit on them," said Bilzerian to critics. Critics shot back pointing out that this is not the case, but Bilzerian has ignored them.

Bilzerian thinks very highly of himself. Aside from deciding he was Instagram’s ‘king’, he also said in 2015 that he was running for president. He pulled out of the race very early, though, and backed Donald Trump.
