Fire Forces Owner To Evacuate Without Pets - Shocked By What She Returns To

Lynn Landry and her husband are making sure that doesn’t happen to an amazing pair that went above and beyond the call of duty. The pair in question is an adorable couple of sheep-dogs that stayed behind to watch their flock for an incredible 20 days. Even more amazingly, they did that as wildfires raged all around them. Only one of the sheep died suring the nearly three weeks the owners were gone.

As the Daily Mail shares, Landry and her husband had no choice but to evacuate their home in North Vancouver, British Columbia. When they were finally given clearance to return home, they were stunned by what they found.

“Though the animals and Lynn's home were intact, the houses on either side had completely burned to the ground. The dogs also managed to protect the flock while helicopters flew overhead and everything was in flames around them. Lynn said: 'They protected them from wildfires, but also from bears and coyotes. The sheep would never have survived without them."

She posted a photo of the two animals after they were reunited referring to them as 'our beautiful but very dirty guardian dogs'. She added that 'they are happy dogs and live to work,” the Mail reports.

Landry has gone public with her tale, and she’s received some backlash for leaving the animals behind in the first place, but she really wasn’t left with much of a choice due to evacuation procedures. While it’s perfectly understandable that the thought of animals in peril can raise the ire of observers, this certainly sounds like a case of extenuating circumstances that she had no control over.

“These dogs are very loved and treasured. We worried about them every day. We applied daily for permission to go in but were denied due to the fire danger." She shared on social media, noting that the animals had never been in a vehicle and to try to separate them would be "cruel and cause them unbelievable stress.”

Beyond the wildfires, the amazing hero dogs kept the sheep safe from predators and other danger.

“The province declared a state of emergency on July 7. The day before, Lynn said she could see the plume of spoke in the distance. During the day, bombers would douse the fire with water and stopped when it got dark. 'It was then that the whole ridge from our place just went up in flames,' she said,” the Mail adds. “Now Lynn and her husband are just thrilled to see all of the animals alive and well. She added that the family rewarded the dogs with 'steak and a good pat' and have settled back into their normal lives.”

Hats off to these amazing hero sheep dogs, and we can only imagine that the dogs were tickled with the handsome reward they received from their loving owners when they were finally able to return home.
