Elk Gets Revenge After Man Kills Him

A man in Oregon killed an elk on a hunting trip, but then a tragic accident happened. The man was impaled on the elk's antlers minutes later.

Gary Heeter was hunting in the Maury Mountains and shot a mature bull elk. The 69-year-old hunter tried dragging the elk's carcass up a steep hill, when something went terribly wrong.

Heeter tied the elk to the back of his 4-wheeler ATV to make the steep climb easier, but as he rode uphill his vehicle flipped back on him. The ATV threw the man backwards, and he landed on his kill. The hunter was impaled on the antlers of the elk he'd shot just minutes earlier.

Other members of the hunting party rushed to Heeter's aid and tried to stop the bleeding. At first he was conscious and communicative, but he began going into shock as he bled out.

First response was slow due to the remote location. An emergency helicopter couldn't find a place to land at the scene. The emergency crew was set down a half mile away from the scene of the accident and had to race on foot to tend to Heeter. They then carried him back to the helicopter.

According to KVAL, Heeter made it to the hospital in time and is in stable condition.
