Animal Rescuers Realize The Dog They’re Trying To Help Has A Guardian Angel

When you’re injured or sick and in need of help, it’s always reassuring to know that you have a loved one to help you out and keep watch over you. That same sentiment applies to the animal kingdom as well, but the unfortunate reality is that there are far too many animals left to fend for themselves.

When it comes to furry four-legged friends, that’s where the amazing workers associated with the various animal rescue organizations come into play.

As AWM shares, The Underdog Project became aware of a pup that was in need of some help in a wooded area near Dowdy’s Ferry outside of Dallas, Texas. While Dallas is a bustling city, the area that the dog was in was quite secluded.

The poor pup was left behind in a heavily wooded area, and it was so injured that it simply couldn’t care for itself.

The poor dog was simply laying around there suffering. Fortunately for the pup, rescue worker Leslie Ysuhuaylas frequently scouts the area for animals in need, and she found the two-year-old Sharpei mix in some seriously rough shape. The dog, who would later be named Benny, had a severe cut on his leg and his head was swollen.

Because Benny had been abandoned for so long, his condition deteriorated severely. The pup needed emergency medical attention, and Ysuhuaylas quickly put the wheels in motion to make that happen.

Benny was so weak that he didn’t even put up a fuss when she put a leash and collar on him, but she did notice something strange as she was preparing to leave with him.

Not too far from where they were stood a one-year-old chocolate lab that was watching their every move. This was more than just mere curiosity from the lab, as it was clearly quite concerned with what was going on.

Ysuhuaylas quickly put two and two together, and she realized that the lab had actually been watching out for Benny and protecting the defenseless doggie as best as possible.

Ysuhuaylas decided that she was going to also rescue that dog, who she would name Betty, but she first had to get Benny the attention he needed. She did just that and got Benny to the vet, who would quickly tend to his wounds.

Benny had been left unattended for so long that he had developed an infection, but he’s now on the road to recovery.

As for the other pup, rescue workers would head back to the same area to track Betty down. Luckily, they were successful in their efforts, and they were sure to spoil her a little bit for serving as Benny’s guardian angel.

To make this touching story even more amazing, The Underdog Project has asked an organization known as Rescue Dogs Rock NYC for some assistance, and that group has agreed to take both dogs in once they are able to travel.

The pups will be put up for adoption at some point, and we can only hope that they are required to go as a package deal.
