Community Left Heartbroken To See What Family Leaves Behind When They Moved

To many, dog's are the cornerstone of their families, and most owners even treat their dogs better than they treat humans. Though sadly, one family decided to abandon their 8-year-old yellow Labrador named Larry.

Poor helpless Larry laid in the dirt next to a building across the street from his former home. Passerbys would do their best to care for the dog, leaving food and water.

One day a delivery driver was passing a landscaping business where she spotted a yellow labrador lying quietly on the side of the building. He had a sadness about him. She went about her day not thinking too much about it but after seeing him there day after day, she knew that something wasn't right, she knew that his owners were not coming back. So, she decided to take action by creating an Instagram profile for Larry.

Although this delivery woman may have thought that this was a small act of kindness, her good deed was really significant to the health and well-being of this sweet loving dog. Sasha Abelson, President of Love Leo Rescue, saw the Instagram profile and reached out to local volunteers.

Abelson told The Dodo, “As soon as we saw [the posts] we said, ‘Just get the dog to us, we’ll take care of the rest.’”

Soon after, volunteers found the dog and drove him two hours to Los Angeles. He looked sad, but he would still wag his tail for the volunteers who rescued him. They noticed that he had a hard time walking and had a swollen belly, even though he had no access to food or water regularly.

Larry lived at a veterinary clinic for a month and a half in order to adjust to his new medication. Abelson said, “In that time he was kind of sad, and a little depressed and reactive with other dogs, so we weren’t sure if he could live with another dog safely.”

The better that Larry's health became, and once the swelling in his belly went down, all that he wanted to do was be around other dogs and he was then relocated to a doggy daycare center where he could spend a lot more time outside.

And now that Larry was feeling better, it was time to find him a forever home. “Not everyone wants a dog with an automatic expense attached,” Abelson said. “And he doesn’t like being alone, but he’s been abandoned, so we can’t really blame him for that.”

Poor Larry has been adopted three times and returned back to the rescue center three times. Abelson said that “he’s been so resilient, doesn’t hold a grudge, and still loves people even though they’ve let him down in the past. He’s just a happy, grateful dog. He just wants someone to take care of him and be there for him.”

Then Abelson added, “Some dogs have a bad experience or are abandoned and it scars them for the rest of their lives,” she said, “but with him — he’s just so sweet, he needs someone to realize that.” She continued, “It’s a little bit like a Cinderella looking for her slipper. We know they’re out there and we’re willing to wait for the perfect person.”
