Cat Plus Nativity Scene Equals Viral Gold

You never do know what’s going to capture the imagination of the masses on social media, but the chances are at least slightly bolstered when there’s an adorable animal involved. Folks can’t get enough of our four-legged friends inadvertently making spectacles of themselves, and that leads to a never-ending parade of pics and clips featuring the furry ones in all sorts of situations. While there’s no sign that interest in such things will be drying up anytime soon, it takes a really special one to stand head and shoulders above the rest.

This one certainly fits the bill, and it has been attracting a ton of attention as a result. Photographer Brooke Goldman happened across the scene, and she quickly got to snapping. Incredibly, it wasn’t even her own pet that was involved, but rather a random scene that she just so happened to capture out of the corner of her eye. As Yahoo shares, she was simply walking her boyfriend to a subway station in Queens when she saw something that was too adorable to pass up.

Goldman passed by a neighborhood nativity scene that featured Mary and Joseph, but there was something rather unusual in the basket in which you would expect to see baby Jesus. Inside the basket was a rather hefty cat that looked awfully comfortable. In fact, based on the cat’s facial expression, it’s safe to say that it had absolutely no intention of moving anytime soon. Goldman quickly snapped and shared, and her post went viral in a hurry.

Her post became so popular that she was actually contacted by ABC News for some thoughts on her viral gem.

"I saw him there, and I just had to take a photo. It was, like, the funniest moment," she said. "He was a little angry that I was in his space. But it was, frankly, the funniest scene to me. I was laughing hysterically."

Based on the reaction that has been flowing in, we can safely say that users on the interwebs agree wholeheartedly.

“I knew Jesus was a cat person,” shared one user.

“The cat wasn't 'getting into the spirit', the cat was saying 'WORSHIP ME, MORTALS!'" added another commenter.

“Cat is thinking: 'I am The Cat. Thou shalt have no other cats before me,'” wrote one poster.

Goldman, who has been taking pictures professionally for six years, was prescient enough to share it on the Cat Spotting Facebook group, and the rest is history. While she obviously has a great eye for what makes a great photo due to her vocation, there was obviously no question about this one. A cat in a manger is just something that’s screaming to be shared with the masses, and Goldman was more than happy to make that happen. It’s going to be tough to top this one before the holiday season comes to a close, but there are plenty of folks out there that are always on the lookout for similarly adorable things. As Goldman can attest, sometimes the best ones pop up when you’re not even looking for them.
