Bella The Squirrel Returns To Visit Family That Rescued Her 8 Years Ago

If someone nurses you back to health, there’s a real strong chance that you’ll feel an unbreakable bond with the kind soul that helped you get back on your feet again. We can extend that sentiment to members of the Animal Kingdom as well, and this amazing story helps to place that in perspective.

Bella the squirrel feels a rather unbreakable bond with the family that nursed her back to health, and she has amazingly returned to the family’s doorstep after being released out into the wild.

As Newsmax shares, Bella was badly injured way back in 2009, but she was thankfully found still alive by a wildlife rescue group. The group determined that there was no way she would have survived left to fend for herself in the wild, so she was placed with Brantley Harrison and his Greenville County family.

The family helps to rehabilitate rescued animals, and Bella fit right in with a trio of other squirrels that the family was caring for, aptly named Moe, Larry, and Curly.

The squirrels were released back out into their natural habitat in 2010, but they kept coming back for treats. That stopped after a while - except for one of them. Bella is still returning to visit the family to this day. Harrison explained the adorable story to WYFF.

"Bella sits right at the front door waiting for someone to notice she has come by for a visit. She has even resorted to jumping over to the dining room window to peer in for someone to see her,” he said. "She comes almost daily for a little loving, treats, and to torment our dog, Cid, through the glass door."

Harrison offered up even more thoughts on the family’s remarkable experience with Bella to The Dodo.

“Her personality was not any different than any other squirrel I have ever raised while she was in my care. The main objective is to return them all back into the wild so I never treated her like a pet. She acted no different than the others,” Harrison said.

“She started to come back for a treat or two within days of being released. The others came back too for a few days which is very typical and then after a week or so they usually stop coming by and getting close to you.”

Beyond being adorable, this tale is nothing short of amazing. While those that pay close attention to the furry creatures know that they sense more things than most humans will ever realize, it’s incredible to see that this remarkable squirrel has the presence of mind to know to return to a place that she received a whole lot of love and comfort.

It’s a testament to Harrison and company for caring for Bella so well, and we can only imagine that the squirrel's visits are all the thanks they will ever need for a job well done.

As for Moe, Larry, and Curly, it sounds like they have no idea what they are missing. It’s either that or they are just the oblivious type that have no concept of appreciation for the lengths that others have gone to get them back on their feet, but that’s another story for another day.
