Ukrainian Bodybuilder Under Fire After She Tattooed Her Cat

A glamourous bodybuilder from Ukraine has forced her sphynx cat to get a tattoo. After posting evidence of the tattoo on social media, the woman was quickly accused of animal cruelty by hundreds of social media users. At this stage, the bodybuilder in question, Elena Ivanickaya, is also under investigation by an animal welfare organization.

The investigation would not have been launched if Ms. Ivanickaya had not made the decision to tattoo a winged Egyptian image on the chest of her pet Sphynx cat. The bodybuilder first triggered outrage when she posted pics of her pet online, showing the cat under general anesthesia while a tattoo artist inked the image on its chest.

However, the bodybuilder did not get the response she had hoped for after hundreds of other social media users began accusing her of animal cruelty. In a furious comment, Inna Milovanova wrote: “Would be better to ink her forehead with a tattoo saying 'Idiot' and break her finger for torturing a defenseless animal, poor kitty.”

Another outraged commenter, Tatakuksa, wrote: “You just can't torture those who are weaker then you, it is not a toy, it is a living being. She did not put a tattoo on her chest.”

However, the Ukrainian bodybuilder has hit back at her critics, emphasizing that her cat, who stars in his own Instagram page, lives a better life than the people attacking her. “This cat's life is better then yours. Maybe it is hell for you, but he feels just fine,” she wrote.

“He has not been castrated and he never will be, this would be real cruelty…I checked with the vet before getting him a tattoo and they were fine with it and a vet was present while they were doing the tattoo, so everything was under control.”

“The cat is treated with love and care,” she later added.

When commenters asked for more information about the tattoo procedure, the blonde bodybuilder wrote the following message: “He is very smart and enjoys his happy life. The tattoo was made on the upper layer of skin…Only 1-2 millimetres, he did not feel any pain. Right after the procedure he behaved normally and started to go on with his normal routine.”

After the furor raised by social media users, Ms. Ivanickaya's decision to tattoo her cat may have triggered a criminal investigation. According to the Daily Mail, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian police force, Natalia Chovpylo, spoke to local media outlets about the case, emphasizing that: “If we establish that the animal was tortured, we will open a criminal case.”

Since the story went viral, even more online commenters have condemned Ms. Ivanikaya’s actions. “The tattoo artist who even agreed to do this should be charged with animal cruelty. What kind of people are these, and why haven't both of them been arrested?” wrote ‘Tuffington’ on the Daily Mail. Another commenter, Naduah, agreed, writing: “She deserves to be locked up - I have a sphinx cat and they are very emotional- she is below a human.”
